ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This geometric abstract painting was made in 2017 and is called ‘Resiste’ in reference to a great song from the French singer ‘France gall’. It was realized from the drawing on a folder made in 2003 and called 'It's raining man' in reference to a great song from 'The sugar sisters'. It has of 3 types of blue colors and contains a multitude of symmetrical and asymmetrical triangular structures and compositions, hence the term 'Triangle Art' which he uses when he speaks about this geometric form that he praises. Small-sized triangle structures and compositions were used in this painting. Analyzing these complex architectural compositions requires time, patience, and effort to discover their full richness. In this, they are an invitation to an emotional journey giving the opportunity to the observer to achieve a state of relaxation and inner peace, as is the case when the artist paints. These works are a representation of his personality which is composed of a duality of ambivalent concepts that he tries to make coexist in harmony: Spontaneity and planning; Consciousness and unconsciousness; Simplicity and complexity; Distance and Proximity; Monotony and Diversity ... They also generate a reflection on our own complexity and on the quality of our relationship with others. This painting is also made from an Art concept that he invented called 'Evolutionism Art' and that he develops to express conceptual ideas and access to a new art vision. Before realizing their final work, artists sometimes make sketches beforehand. It also happens sometimes that they reproduce their work with slight modifications. Gregory Dubus does none of this because his goal is to completely modify the work done previously by keeping only a few main structures. Thus, the work is totally metamorphosed and becomes a new work in its own right that he can use again to follow the same principle. It is a transformation that can be endless, and it leads to a reflection on the notions of sketch, original work and copy since they coexist together until they can no longer be differentiated. The evolution of the work takes place through this gradual passage from one state to another, hence the concept of ‘Evolution Art’ which he invented and develops to describe this new vision of art. Thanks to the unique method he uses, each work acquires parenthood and can thus be integrated into an artistic family tree. This metamorphosis of the work also leads to reflection on its recycling, an increasingly important and necessary concept in our society. The internet site of the artist is: Additional information: Unique piece of Art: First time an artist self-portrait is made fully abstract in Art history! Discover why: Throughout Art history, artists have always tried to make portraits and self-portraits but making them fully abstract are considered as being a ‘non-sense’ (impossible) because abstract artists have still always been required to integrate a bit of figurative representation. For instance, Picasso or Bacon have created abstract portraits but still showing -deformed- bodies and faces. With his above painting, Gregory Dubus has succeeded to make his abstract self-portrait without using any figurative representation and so to make possible what has been seen as being impossible. But how? : Instead of representing his physical attributes (Head and body), the artist decided to represent his psychological attributes (Personality and values) which is another way to represent himself! But how this painting made only of triangle structures and compositions is a representation of his psychological attributes? : The two corners of the base of a triangle represent his parents who have a totally different personality, and he is at the top of the triangle because it represents how he built himself from his parents antinomic personalities (thinking versus feeling, rigor versus flexibility, calm versus energetic…). Triangle means three angles. ‘Three’ means ‘Trois’ in French. Remove the ‘r’ from it and you get ‘toi(s)’, which means yourself in English. So, when making triangles, the artist represent himself (his personality) containing a bit of both parent’s personalities. Now, if you remove the ‘t’, you get ‘roi(s)’, which means King in English. This is a representation of his values as for him, a king represents values like being independent, autonomous, a guide for others. These explanations may look far-fetched, but, if you would speak to a psychoanalyst, this would make totally sense! A reproduction of this painting is visible in the 'Geometric and MADI Art' museum in Dallas (USA).

Gregory Dubus is a French artist living in the Netherlands whose artworks are displaying originality, uniqueness, remarkable aesthetic and higher technical and creative standard. His structural compositions are a praise to geometric Abstraction and most particularly to the triangle shape inviting the viewer to experience a reflective and emotional peacefulness mindset. His art is colorful and exigent because it requires lot of patience, rigor and precision. It also represents his personality which contains a duality of concepts that he is trying to make coexisting in harmony: Feelings vs Thinking; Simplicity vs complexity; Monotony vs diversity; Facility vs difficulty; Planning vs spontaneity; Visible vs invisible; Conscious vs unconscious; Effort vs ease…… His art has been influenced the abstract art movement called ‘Suprematism’, by the colouring he loved doing during his childhood and by a few abstract artists like August Herbin (forms and colours), Piet Mondrian (lines and structures) and Victor Vasarely (organisation and movements). He is a permanent member of ‘BosFineArt’ being a major gallery in Europe specialised in Geometric Abstraction., where he regularly exhibits its artworks. In 2018, he became finalist for the ‘Artist of the year Award’ of the International Circle Foundation for the Arts. French art critic and expository commissioner, Sarah Heussaff, says about him: ‘Gregory Dubus’ artworks scan be seen as a choreography in which the lines and colors come, in harmony, to match each other. The space is little by little invaded by the movement of forms that leave no frame, no immaculate space, or even silence in support of this ballet. The predominant lines are made freehand according to the artist’s intuition. In a maze of corridors, of strong lines and colors, each structure deploys its own entity. Every work produced retains its uniqueness, just like the momentum that dictates the course that the work will take at the beginning of its conception. Hypnotic, these plastic productions take in some points the form of an automatic writing that the artist lets instinctively unfold under our eyes. Then, stands a topography, like a collection of geometric shapes which would join the codification attempts, colour-form correspondences and letters of the abstract painter Auguste Herbin and his attempts to transcend pictorial forms.
