ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Inside the packaging will be included a printed sheet containing the narrative related to this canvas. That's the story behind "Return" painting: Italy – June 1987 “Dear friend, even August has come to an end and the first rains are washing away the summer. September is coming and, as you know, for me these are the days when I organise the various threads of my life. After travelling in the chaos of the city, in search of something new, the moment of soul searching has arrived. I need a different place, the one inside me. I need solitude. The urban chaos has left too much suspended chatter, so I want to find a place where I can observe the infinite. I remember visiting the Aeolian Islands as a boy. I remember that the sea, with its volcanic bottom, was a very intense blue and that nature reigned uncontaminated; it was time to return there. I left Palermo, I reached the Aeolian Islands on a ship. I arrived in Vulcano and from there, to Filicudi, taking another boat. I would have done everything to push myself to the remotest place to be able to break away from the rest of the world. I wanted to fill my eyes with sea and light. I rented an apartment and a boat. I stayed there for four days. The sea was as I remembered it, stupendous, pdeep, fatal. At night, it turned into an ink stain, while so many stars shone in the sky that you could walk without a torch. I found silence. Don't get me wrong, I'm not looking for an escape, I don't want to be a hermit by myself; I am here to return to myself and my calm sea.  What does the sea do to attract men so much?  Maybe it's all this. “

Gambatesa's work is a synthesis of the light and color of a place. The artist dedicates his entire life to "travel" and makes it the main body of his painting practice. Gioacchino succeeds in making us realize that exploration is a private thing. In fact, each of us, experiencing the discovery of a place, actually discovers it for the first time, and the resulting feeling is the same as that experienced by ancient explorers, as if we were a modern-day Christopher Columbus. When we look at a work by Gioacchino Saltagrillo Gambatesa we observe the very personal emotion that the artist felt in discovering a place, a person, a situation. Let us, then, be inspired by those vibrant colors and light that these works emanate. Let us go there, into the place described by the title of the work, allowing ourselves five minutes of...meditation...
