ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Rice field workers toiled for months on the terraces next to my painting studio, in Batubulan, Gianyar, Indonesia. My inspiration was seeing them daily, with the biannual processes of pruning, burning, planting, cultivating and harvesting rice grains, a food that is typical in Southeast Asia. They are picturesque with their hats that protect them from the sun, and friendly, always talking, smiling and listening to Bamboo music.
