River Sunset McLane Stadium - 30 x 40 Acrylic on Deep Gallery Wrapped Canvas Late afternoon from the Washington Street Bridge in Waco Texas is an amazing site! A view that encompasses Indian Spring Park, five bridges from Washington Street to the Twin Bridges at McLane Stadium in the distance, including the iconic Waco Suspension Bridge ( Chisholm Trail Bridge). The historic plaque for the Washing Street Bridge with the date (1901), Waco Mayor's name, and credits for the builders is featured in the foreground and readable. I especially wanted this plaque to show honoring this beautiful bridge. Crepe Myrtles are in bloom, McLane Stadium glows in the distance in the golden late day sun. The colors on the stadium and their reflection in the water echo the Baylor University colors. This painting offers a rare view of many things that make the Brazos River Walk area so popular and are iconic of Waco. Enjoy the view! Come visit us and experience all Waco, Texas has to offer. For Waco, Texas-based professional artist and instructor Lee James, it’s all about color and texture. Lee’s style is best described as blending aspects of impressionism and realism with a strong emphasis on bold, vivid, even playful use of color in light-filled paintings. His favored medium is acrylic as it can be used like oils or watercolor. Thrilled to embark on each new painting, his ultimate reward is your enjoyment of the “worlds” he creates in each painting. Lee has a lifelong interest in architecture, having owned two National Historic Register Plantations and even designed homes. Structures of some type will almost always be found in his landscapes. A love of coastal, boats, cars and trucks, and animals have also had a profound influence in his work as well as a strong interest in nocturnal scenes. Lee is not a “high noon” painter. Early morning, later in the afternoon, and evening…”these are the times when colors are more intense, subjects are more interesting” and will always be part of his works. With an intense love of color, Lee rarely mixes color on the palette, choosing instead to pickup multiple colors, with a palette knife, and “let it happen” as the paint goes on the canvas. “The result is far more exciting!”
