Alexey Zhucovsky was born in the Kharkiv region, Ukraine. His mother, Marysia Franczewna, came from the noble family of the Żukowskis. Alexey Zhucovsky's great-grandfather Marcel Banifacy Żukowski was executed in 1938 during Stalin's repression in the Soviet Union. His work is classified as a figurative avant-garde with elements of expressionism. The artist defines his path as a "figurative avant-garde" penetrating the depths of human existence. The works are characterized by the use of bright colors, expressive strokes, and a dynamic play of light and shadow. Zhuсovsky works with acrylic, watercolor, oil, charcoal, and pastel. He often uses watercolor on paper to create "luminous feelings" and illusory images. The artist strives to capture fleeting life with the help of a line, color or spot bringing it into materiality. Emotional loading, drama, and elements of symbolism are often present in his works. Alexey Zhucovsky describes his work as the birth of life in colors and lines on a clean sheet of paper creating "a world of absolute pictorial beauty on the material surface of the external world".
