Rocks at Two Lights Print

This rugged seascape was inspired by Winslow Homer, John Singer Sargent, Rockwell Kent, and George Bellows. I painted this on location over 2 summers. I want the viewer to feel the mighty ocean surge and smell the salt air. I wanted to paint the location so the viewer could almost hear the wind and the waves. I painted this with oil paints on canvas. This allowed me to have a range of surfaces from very thin to heavy impasto. I am attracted to scenes of weathered beaten rocks and landscapes that resist centuries of atmospheric abuse. Homer and Sargent inspired me because their direct paintings captured the scene's personality and dynamics.
