Welcome to 1900s Portland and the story of Rose in her red dress, dancing with her love . . . portrayed by Tokiko Anderson My name is Rose. I was a prostitute living upstairs above the *White Eagle. I met a man in the parlor one day. He asked me to waltz with him. He held me in his arms in the middle of the crowd of drunken cowboys yelling and gambling. I didn't see anything but his green eyes looking at me. I remembered how it was when my mother would dance with my farher when they were alive. The man snuck me out to the riverside and took me on a row boat. Days passed by and I didn't hear from him sometimes. One day I snuck out to the riverside to see if I would see him but he wasn't there. I snuck to the riverside the next day and the next day but he wasn't there. Eventually I heard the girls saying they killed him. I ran to the riverside and hid. I found the book of Shakespeare he had read to me, "Romeo and Juliet,"under the rock. I looked onto the water and saw him calling to me. "Come Rose, no one will hurt you anymore." And I walked into the river. *The White Eagle was established by Polish immigrants in 1905. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Rose's ghost is rumored to haunt the halls of the Portland's White Eagle.

“I remembered I wanted to go to Switzerland to become a shepherdess. Then one day when I was walking I saw the sun lightened up the hill through the woods. Then I realize I am living in where I dream. I am not a shepherdess but I can go to the berry picking with cheese and ham sandwiches on the rolling hill of Oregon. We have the ArtWalk in the community where my studio is. There are live art, on the spot drawing by pedestrians, poll table in the tent, unusual bicycles and rickshas running on the street. I remembered I wanted to go to Montmartre Paris, to live with artists like the way the impressionists lived. Then I realized I am living in an artists’ colony here in Portland Oregon just like Montmartre Paris. Hey! Life is good. When I was younger and insecure about myself I was strongly influenced by other styles. But Now I look and find what I was searching for was within. Sometimes I paint Nostalgic Portland scenes with lifestyles of people and places, a collective momentum of a past that permeates the present. Like Utrillo and Lautrec painted Paris, I paint Portland pictures for peace and comfort. More information can be found at Redbubble, in the comments area of the "Explore Designs" section.
