ABOUT THE ARTWORK
A view of Ruapehu (active volcano in the North Island of New Zealand, elevation 2797m) late in the afternoon, when it's dark enough at ground level for people to turn their lights on, but the top of the mountain is still catching the last rays of light from the dying sun. No, no, the sun's not really dying. It just seems that way, as it disappears below the horizon. It'll rise again tomorrow, with a probability in excess of 99%. Stop fussing. We've got more immediate things to worry about. Don't breathe on me.

Paul Lyons is a New Zealand artist working in watercolour.
He uses a variety of techniques to achieve the unusually rich, dark colours and textures that characterise many of his watercolours, and his paintings often include layers of collaged Japanese rice paper or gouache.
He has exhibited in various galleries, including the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts and his paintings hang in collections throughout New Zealand and in America and Britain.
The paintings are all watercolours executed with archival-quality materials (100% rag paper and paints with a lightfastness rating of A or AA).
