About the Artist

Barbara Kerwin

United States

Washington, USA. 1964.
Claremont Graduate University, MFA; Painting & Sculpture, Claremont, Ca.,
Washington State University, BFA; Art and Architecture

Kerwin lives and works in Los Angeles. Her work resides in the areas of proportion and measurements found in a lineage including Reinhardt, McGlaughlin, Agnes Martin and her own. Kerwin’s geometric abstraction, with an emphasis on color harmonies and balance, takes a new beat with each exhibition. Kerwin uses a variety of media to achieve her goals for each painting, which include: oil, oil in high melt waxes, or acrylic. These paintings have been called by critics. "sexy", "passionate", and "surfaces to dream on".
Her work has been in over 125 exhibitions and is collected internationally.

*Cows pop out at times and are spontaneously painted. Kerwin grew up on a wilderness cattle ranch. She calls these “lucky totems” when they show up. Some are available here.
