ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Speak Up Speak Out started out as a non-figurative abstract. After the painting was finished I turned it in different directions to see which way I liked it best. After flipping it upside down I noticed a pair of intense eyes looking back at me. This was at the time of George Floyd's death. I painted over the whole piece with white paint only leaving the eyes from the original painting. I wanted to create the intensity, passion and the outrage of the protesters and people from around the world over his senseless death. I feel the colors, figure and movement in the painting conveys the intensity of the moment. The sides are painted and hardware is attached for hanging. It is signed on the side.

I have been an artist since 1990, the first 20 years as a ceramic artist and a painter since 2010. I work with acrylic paint and incorporate several mark making, collage and textural materials into my paintings. I like to think the initial view of my paintings will draw the viewer in for a closer look to see all the details. I have sold and displayed my artwork in local galleries. I have completed and sold several commissioned paintings. I have always been drawn to figurative artwork, my early figurative paintings were more representational with abstract backgrounds. Over time I have gravitated to abstract figurative work and abstract expressionism which I find allows the mind to be free to express itself. As an artist my hope is that my artwork evokes emotion in others and ultimately brings joy.
