View In My Room
The stresses of my life at the time inspired the work. I was dealing with PTSD, depression and various spiritual issues as I was brought up in a strict christian sect that had deeply impacted my mental health. The piece speaks of sacrifice on the cross, and the depression and sadness in any type of sacrifice. I hope its viewers will feel whatever they want to feel when they see it. I can't control what the painting evokes in anyone else. Again, I didn't chose the subject matter. It chose me. I paint to express what I'm feeling inside - pain, confusion, Jesus on the cross, sacrifices I've made in my own life, blood, did I say pain? I think it shows the vitality and horror in religion. The crosses can represent crucifixes or stars, both pain and hope.
