About The Artwork

Padre Pio (1887-1968) was an Italian priest born in the village of Pietreclina. He was a Capuchin Franciscan friar, a follower of the 13th century St. Francis of Assisi. He was known for his simplicity and his spiritual insights and powers. His early life was somewhat controversial as he claimed to have received the stigmata (the wounds of Christ). The Vatican and other authorities investigated him over the years but he was exonerated and greatly revered as a confessor by the 1950s. Graham Greene reportedly went to see Padre Pio with a friend but as they approached him in church truned back, as it was said Padre Pio could tell you your sins before you even confessed. He has a devout following throughout the world by many Catholics
