"Sak kap fet yo that means what's good?" says Wyclef Jean, one of the most popular Haitian artist/musician, in his 2018 album. Prestige is a lager brewed by Brasserie Nationale d'Haïti (BRANA) in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. It is widely consumed and is the best-selling beer in Haiti with a 98% market share. At first, I find the bottle both odd and fascinating, because it looks like some cough syrup but it tastes pretty good. In fact, it won the Gold Medal in 2000 and 2012 World Beer Cup under the American-Style Cream Ale or Lager category. It reminds me of "Beer na Beer" in the Philippines. So this is the 5th installment in my "Alkoholika Series" entitled "Sak Kap Fet", a 24x32 cm acrylic and pastel on 160 gsm black rough canson paper. I've already quit excessive drinking when I moved to Port au Prince, which was great. But when I do drink beer, this is the brand of choice. It's good that it's not associated with memories of getting wasted hahaha but I think that's because being out of my comfort zone, I'm not surrounded with my brothers and old solid friends who have always protected me from predators, that allowed me to drink and party beyond my limits back then. This beer reminds of chilling at the beach or in a boat in Labadie, which made my right hand instafamous. Good times.
