SEBA LALLEMAND Jean-Sébastien Lallemand, alias Séba Lallemand, was born in 1973 and grew up in Gabon and Ivory Coast. After studying at the ESAD (École Supérieure d’Art et de Design) in Orléans, he joined Fabrica, the communication laboratory founded by Luciano Benetton and directed by Oliviero Toscani. In 1998, Toscani gave him carte blanche to direct his first short film, Afterwords, produced by Marco Muller / Fabrica Cinema. The film was screened at the Venice, Rotterdam, Split, Rome, Vienna and London film festivals. In 2000, he spent a year working alongside the communication agency Atalante / Éditions Xavier Barral in Paris. The following year, he directed the first music video for Gotan Project, Santa Maria, with Bandits Production. From 2003 to 2009, he embarked on a six-year journey through China. In Hong Kong, he worked as a photographer and videographer in the dance and film industries. In Beijing, he served as director of photography for Wang Bing on Brutality Factory, and later for Ai Weiwei on the projects Template and Fairy Tale, which were exhibited at Documenta XII in Kassel. In 2009, he returned to Trôo, where his family resides. Since then, he has dedicated himself to drawing, bubbling (a technique involving ink bubbles), painting, photography, and filmmaking.
