Statement Through assemblage, sculpture and painting, the artist explores the duality between destruction and creation, both on a material and conceptual level. Testimony to the post-vandalism movement, the very notion of destruction is re-imagined as a catalyst for personal rebirth. Walls, structures and foundations are subjected to demolition actions, questioning the boundaries between the "outside", the "inside" and its limits. Zones are questioned: an evolving quest for private and public space, and the place it occupies in a constantly changing environment. Bio Passionate about music since adolescence, Dominic St-Aubin evolves as a guitarist and singer in several music groups. His creative energy manifests through raw emotional expression, through songwriting, and the intensity of punk sounds. His self-taught learning of painting continued his artistic expression. His first years in visual art were devoted mainly to abstract painting. Between 2012 and 2016, he exhibited in various Montreal locations: galleries, cafes, community centers. In 2015, he was commissioned by the Montreal borough of Rosemont-Petite-Patrie to carry out a public art project. Six artistic benches will be created as part of this contract. Since 2016, he has regularly taken trips to Paris, a city with which he fell in love. The desire to create an aesthetic dialogue between the urban environment and its plastic work is growing. During this period, he created several series of works in his studio which he displayed strategically in the streets of Paris and Montreal. His job as a handyman, working in intimate places, inspires him in his reflection on private and public space. Manufactured materials recovered from demolition sites become the foundations of his artistic productions. In July 2023, the gallery Parfois, located in Montreal, will welcome him for a week for his first solo exhibition “Passer au travers”.
