About the Artist

Alessio Mazzarulli

Italy

My works are made using thousands and thousands of little pieces of paper that, assembled together with acrylic colors, give life to figures.
In my recent works I am exploring the female universe and their figure of women treated like "dolls", too often victims of violence: "not your doll" is the title of the series.
With these works I try to interpret the emotions of women who wear these clothes and would like to shout out their anger to the world, but unfortunately many cannot do so. So I try to identify with them, shouting out their anger and their desire for redemption to the world for them.
The sharp looks of my subjects shout out anger in their sweetness, in their expressions composed of thousands and thousands of little pieces of paper with the words of their daily life written on them.
Finally, in my latest works, there is always one or more little pieces of paper with the hashtag "#FreeIran" written in support of the daily struggle that the female universe must currently sustain in a beautiful country rich in history such as Iran.
Finally, since my works are all composed of recycled paper, I transform garbage destined for the waste paper bin into emotions.
