ABOUT THE ARTWORK

It was an early April day when i was walking down a narrow asian street somewhere in the centre of Khudjand. Suddenly I heard the bleating of sheep behind the clay wall. "Bacha (in Tajik it means "boy"), can I look at them?", - I asked the boy who was entering the yard. He let me in.There was a small paddock with a few sheep inside. Suddenly one of the sheep stood with its front hooves on the ledge and curiously stretched out its neck. It was a moment I had to capture. In a minute I made a quick sketch of the animals on folded paper. That same evening I painted this picture from that sketch.

I have always been attracted to hand-made craft little things that preserve the traditions of folk culture. I believe that the best souvenir you can bring from a trip is something like that, bought at the local flea market. At some point, because of this hobby, I gathered a small collection of amusing ceramics, where each piece has its own unique shape and a different décor, often an ornament. I admired my treasures and wanted so much my artwork to look more like such a wild collection or a casket with gems, where the stones in it are not precious, but semi-precious. So that it reflects the traditional flavor, the beauty of identity, sometimes contrasted with modernity, and sometimes even disappearing. Now I live in Central Asia, Tajikistan. And here I find a lot of inspiring things for my new paintings every day and everywhere.
