Mar Yebra is a neuroscientist and visual artist whose work explores the emotional worlds hidden beneath the surface of daily life. Born in Almería, Spain, and now based in Los Angeles, she bridges scientific insight with artistic expression, creating large-scale figurative and abstract canvases that reflect on empathy, resilience, and human complexity. Her practice draws from her background in neuroscience, where she studied how the brain encodes decision-making and emotion. These ideas manifest visually through layered textures, bold contrasts, and symbolic motifs that mirror the imperfections and inner conflicts that shape identity. Recent series include Femininity & Identity, which portrays women’s strength, vulnerability, and heritage, and Glitches, a project that reclaims flaws and digital artifacts as symbols of beauty in imperfection. Yebra’s work has been exhibited in Los Angeles and Spain, and featured in art and design collaborations during West Hollywood Design Week. Her paintings invite viewers to slow down, reflect, and embrace empathy as a radical act of care.
