About The Artwork

I am an old car guy without a car, so I paint other peoples' auto treasures. I have always been fascinated by the Raymond Loewy-designed 1950 Studebaker. They call it "bullet nose" but I see the front end as the air intake of a jet fighter and the headlight surrounds are two other jets flying in formation. I tracked this example at a car show in Cedar Edge, Colorado, for a couple of years. Finally, the lighting and the setting were just right so I dropped to the ground to get an up-angle on the right front fender. I love the way the surroundings are mirrored by the three dimensional curves of the Stude. (Not its real license plate, BTW.) Next door to it is a red 1980 Dodge Challenger convertible owned by my neighbor Bud, which adds greatly to the color mix. I played with Daniel Smith duochrome and luminescent paints to brighten the highlights and lowlights. With the virus epidemic we may not be having car shows for a while, sad. May I live to see them again.

I'm a retired communication professor pursuing a new avocation as a watercolor artist. In my travels across the United States and around the world I pause for a 4x6 color sketch whenever an inspirational moment takes hold and I have my portable art pack at hand. I revisit those moments at my home in western Colorado by producing finished miniatures with reference to digital snapshots I capture on location. I have been at this for over 25 years and have a collection of several hundred paintings of great works of nature and of humankind. The most striking images evolve into larger works that fill the walls of my studio, our home, and our outbuildings. I show my work in art exhibitions near my home and now online.
