ABOUT THE ARTWORK
As an artist and Art Therapist, I always paint that which I feel and do not use pictures as a reference, rather prefer to let the creativity flow. Being an Art therapist every painting becomes a healing process for me, so I focus on letting all emotions work themselves out and just have fun. The intention of this painting was to obtain a cracked paint effect in the sky area which worked out well as I first painted the canvas while it was wet and loosely stretched, I then allowed it to dry and restretched the canvas to get the cracked effect. I then sealed the canvas so that the paint will adhere to the canvas. Then only did I do the water and the City. After the painting was done, a man appeared as a shadow on the right of the canvas. This was not the intention, however, he decided to make his appearance. The painting is mixed medium, done with enamel on canvas while working with my fingers through the wet enamel. The canvas was purposely not stretched tight so that when the painting dried, and it was stretched the cracks would appear. This was then sealed, and the abstract city was born.

My mind would immediately see the wood and the trees and the light shining on the leaves, to the point where I could smell the earth. I have then left the building...lol. My art carries the essence that reflects my heart. I paint under a shortened version of my name "Cilla Meintjes " as my full name is too long. However, when I delve into abstract art, I do so under the pseudonym "Ruby Rembrandt", as it reflects a different facet of my personality, one that loves colour and shapes and just breaths in space. For me art isn't just a hobby - it's my passion, and the reason I believe why I was placed on this earth, Through my art I can help people to just "Be" and "Breathe" and it is the essence of my being.
