ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Sinterklaasje bonne bonne bonne... In the Netherlands, there are a lot of events around St. Nicholas. In the beginning I had to get used to it but after living in this country for more than 10 years, I really like it. Especially for kids it is amazing. All my monochrome paintings are about light and dark. They are about the balance between these two. Sometimes the dark values dominate, sometimes the light ones are more present. Both, light and darkness need, and feed each other.

What touches me is beautiful light, a certain expression on a face and the atmosphere between two or more people. And how do I get the energy packed and painted? I also love material, such as jeans for example. If you want to get outstanding results in painting jeans, you have to focus on what you see only. And I love doing it! While painting, I am always searching for the perfect balance. This may consider the balance between hard and soft limits, light and dark tones, bright, soft or no color and rest and tension. I am aware of the borders and these extremes. Between these limits I am constantly looking for the perfect balance by restricting myself in color. At the same time I am looking for the greatest possible freedom. How little do I really need to show as much as possible? And how far can I go to explore the edges?
