I was captivated by the relationship I sensed between these Cambodian children. When I returned home, I translated the image into a painting in oils on canvas. I choose to believe the older girl was taking care of her younger sibling. Thus the title Sister Love. I

Sue grew up in West Virginia where, in the first grade, she told her teacher she could not draw. “Of course you can,” the teacher said. Trusting her teacher spoke truth; Sue began drawing and hasn’t stopped since. Over the years she has worked and played with art in many settings: as the teacher of special needs children, as the mother of young children, as a Hospice volunteer, and during her 25 year as a practicing art therapist. Wherever I am, images grab my attention. At various times I’ve painted the figure, still-life, landscapes. I’ve explored the feminine archetype and dabbled in the non-objective. I move in and out of relationship with subjects that delight or intrigue me. I believe, artistic creation is always an exploration into the unknown, a mystery to solve. It may be frustrating at times but it is never boring and, ultimately, fantastically rewarding.
