Sistine Ignudo #2 (Michelangelo Studies) Print

This painting is from the small group of studies after works by Michelangelo that I have been working on through 2021. This particular figure is one of the Ignudi from the Sistine Chapel ceiling, whose varied poses fascinate me as a figure painter. The image is from the narrative paintings and is one of a facing pair of ignudi I painted from this scene; both artworks are available to view on my profile. I reverted Michelangelo's fully completed Ignudo into a dual-toned "unfinished" figure study sketch in traditional red ochre and white, inspired by his preparatory sketches and the Old Master drawings I love. It is painted on a genuine Italian earth pigment Burnt Sienna ground, on a cotton canvas. The painting is framed in a dark brown wood frame with hanging hardware included.
