ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Description: We are told to smile for the world even when we have a frown on our mind. We might be suffocating inside but smile on the outside. This is the society we live in, smile and don’t show what is inside. Meaning: This piece is a commentary on the society we live in and women oppression. The girl is being suffocated with plastic wrapped around her face, yet she has a smile on her face and acting as if everything is fine. This is what is expected from us to take it all in and act ‘civilized’ we are told to follow rules and not question anything. The oppression of women is also another theme of the artwork, the women in our society still are not equal to men and they are still oppressed in many places in our country.
