About The Artwork
Oil on linen 47x54x2cm (18.5x21.3x0.8in) 2022, ready to hang. “Smile!” is an artwork which I started in 2018, when I painted the face of the boy to practice gestural painting. Then other commitments, first, and the pandemic, in 2020, forced me to wait until 2022 to finish it by adding the female figure aside the boy. When I painted the face of the boy, so sad and materic, I suddenly realised that I should have added a laughing figure aside him. Luckily, I could have the true mother of the boy posing for the artwork, which I believe gives the artwork an even more realistic and verist touch. The painting technique is gestural and materic, with strong attention for details. The background is monochrome to underline the figures and the details. “Smile!” is an oil on linen painting which is stretched on a supported wooden frame and is sold with its unique certificate of authenticity.

In my paintings I focus on figures and their interaction with the landscape and architecture. After spending some years being very faithful to the samples, I am now experimenting different styles of painting and alternating portraits (mainly commissions) with sperimental artworks. Also, I am increasingly taking advantage of image editing softwares in pre-production to find the best colours and lights for the painting. I use oil colours both on wood and linen. All the materials used in the artworks are high quality, from hand primed canvas (by myself, using a classic method that prevents from aging and deterioration) to colours.
