About The Artwork
This was a study painted in oil on canvas board of Sal Leiter’s photograph taken in New York City circa 1950. I wanted to capture that relief when he has that first exhale on a quick smoke break using the black and white oil paint. Having worked in a hospital during the pandemic I really related to that feeling of relief for those few minutes on break.
