ABOUT THE ARTWORK

A snapshot of a London landscape. The dynamism of its colours resemble the sense of movement in the city and its inhabitants. Lights, noises and movement are all that’s left when humans disappear from this dimension in favour of a city that acquires a life on its own. Its reflection in the Thames water result in an enhanced “mess of colours” that projects itself onto the sky. The many cranes portrayed in the centre part of the painting become the symbol of this process, where humans work at the service of this city.

I was born in Yorkshire and studied Fashion Design, receiving a MA with honours from the London College of Fashion in 2005. I started my career in fashion with focus on designing sculptural bracelets under the Yorkshire Pearl brand, featured in Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and other major magazines. Vogue also nominated me as “Ones to Watch” in 2010. During this time, I also ran a vintage business – an area of great passion -- in London’s Brick Lane Market. In 2015 I shifted my artistic expressions towards painting. To fund the pursuit of this long-held passion, I often freelanced selling vegetables at Borough Market. My portfolio today exceeds one hundred paintings and has historically been sold privately or per commission. My works reflect the development in my career often harkening to fashion, vintage and the reality of my days on the market. I approach the canvas with a liberal and unstructured attitude, drawing inspiration from the process of painting itself. My works use colours to accentuate the brighter aspects of an otherwise often dark world.
