Abstract, long, seascape painting entitled 'Source' is a coastal contemporary piece of fine artwork by the Award Winning Artist Janet Gammans. It is both atmospheric and moody and has great tonal value using deep colors of turquoise, blue white and umber hues. The artwork has been painted in an expressionist and modern style. It has been inspired by my time spent by the coast, studying, drawing and 'living the life'. The artwork evokes an emotional response to forms, atmosphere and textures from rural aspects of rustic coastline. I have come to realize that it’s not ‘what you paint’ that is important, but ‘how you paint it’. So in my interpretation of painting a subject, I try to maintain the essence of what first inspired me to paint it. For me, what is fundamental in my paintings are light, subtlety of color, harmony, depth and drama, while still staying true to the subject. In my finished work, I hope that I have conveyed to the viewer a sense of mood, which was present at the time of painting it.ʺ The artwork has been painted on stretched primed cotton canvas. The chunky, deep, solid wood frame has a smooth white coating and the face measures 3 cm with the total size measuring 39 x 69 cm (actual stretched canvas measures 2 feet x 1 foot). It has been made ready to hang with all fixtures and fittings in place. The image would suit most home interiors and enhance large areas of interest to create an eye catching feature and interesting focal point. It has great visual impact too. A statement piece!

Janet works from her studio in South Cambridgeshire, as a freelance artist, supplying semi abstract, impressionistic and fine art to publishing companies worldwide. Her paintings are sold from galleries throughout the South of England and internationally via the web. She has become a much recognized artist for her subject matter and her unique creative style of work. ʺI enjoy experimenting with all mediums but watercolor and acrylic are the ones I find most satisfying. Depending on the subject, I find that it would either lend itself more to the delicate touches of watercolor or to the stronger and more vibrant colors of acrylic paint and each would allow me to translate a ‘mood’ a subject might evoke”. I have come to realize that it’s not ‘what you paint’ that is important, but ‘how you paint it’.
