ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This work is part of a series of abstract figures that show the subtleties of being human. The figure and background is abstract to show that our understanding of ourselves, our stories, and our entire concept of humanity is complex, chaotic, and also beautiful. the design of the figure is simplified to be an obvious head and neck, but not much else, to better let the viewer project themselves into the work This painting continues the theme of turning our thoughts, feelings, concepts, and experiences into beings. In this case, its also a personal painting about how good laziness can look sometimes, illustrated by the S curves and svelte form. Painting comes unframed with a gold painted border

Born in Oregon and raised in Colorado, Matthew Lesniewski now lives and works in Nederland, Colorado in the heart of the front range region. A self taught painter, Matthew works as a massage therapist in his off hours and uses his knowledge of anatomy and the human spirit to capture people's energetic selves on canvas. Highly inspired by his love of psychology, philosophy, and theology, Matthew's work are almost religious portraits that show people in expressionistic and abstract ways, pulling together the spiritual realms of color as explored by painters like Kandinsky and Rothko.Working with acrylics and a quick pace, he throws colors together with wild brush strokes, impasto techniques, and drip painting to create high energy works that pop and dazzle the senses. Using acrylic paints for its ability to be worked quickly and with lots of energy, Matthew's work displays itself in the forms of beings or abstract paintings that seem to have a life of their own.
