The journey began in the confines of a bunker, where the world outside was consumed by conflict. In that fragile space, sketching became a form of escapism—a quiet rebellion against uncertainty. Armed with just pencil and paper, Weeda captured fleeting moments of hope amid adversity, drawn to the immediacy and simplicity of the medium. Since then, her artistic path has mirrored her physical one—a continuous search for refuge and meaning across continents. Each displacement brought new landscapes, new textures of life, and a deeper connection to the seemingly ordinary. Over time, Weeda has honed the ability to find wonder in the mundane, using her viewfinder as a passport to uncover the mysticism hidden in everyday corners. Now rooted in North Texas, her backyard is more than a natural landscape; it is a living metaphor for resilience, adaptation, and transformation. Through her work, Weeda captures the unseen currents that shape existence, distilling the interplay between chaos and stillness, movement and memory, the ephemeral and the eternal. STATEMENT: In my practice, the symbiotic relationship between subject matter and medium is a guiding force, shaping my work's essence and form. Rather than imposing a predetermined process, I let the subject dictate the tools and materials, allowing for an organic and adaptive creative journey. What began as a love for nature has evolved into an obsession with its quiet intelligence and deep interconnectedness. The unseen collaborations of trees, the silent underground networks, and the intricate coexistence of organisms are constant reminders of humanity’s potential for unity and mutual aid across borders. These natural relationships inspire my artistic choices and my perspective on the world. From the confines of my childhood bunker to the vast landscapes I’ve encountered across continents, my work is a testament to the universal threads that bind us all. As I continue to explore the delicate relationships within nature, my art reflects an undeniable truth: we are all connected.
