Rebecca Bennett is a contemporary abstract oil painter originally from New Jersey, with a dynamic body of work that has captivated audiences across the country. After settling in Austin, Texas over 25 years ago, Bennett’s artistic career began to flourish. She began exhibiting her work in galleries and art shows throughout the country, and quickly developed a following for her striking and original style. Today, Bennett continues to create stunning and thought-provoking works of art from her studio in Austin, Texas. Artist Statement Using the sensual qualities of oil, I create layered abstractions which explore the dynamics of color, line, and texture. The viewer is encouraged by their abstraction to interpret their experience of the work rather than the work itself. My work plays with the abstracted modern landscape often with a strong horizon line. I use light and dark, space and scale, encouraging the viewer to step into the work to react and reflect. My process is one in which the artist and paint are partners negotiating the surface of the canvas as if the paint had animated qualities.
