Created in a single, uninterrupted burst, this minimal still life showcases two simplified containers: a tall column of deep cobalt and a round pot wrapped in airy white-and-sky-blue stripes. Julija Levuskane creates intimate oil paintings in Latvia that blur the line between tonal abstraction and the real world. Born in Russia, she completed a linguistics degree before relocating with her family to Latvia in 2004, where she began to pursue art in earnest. In 2010 Levuskane learned she had multiple sclerosis. As tremor gradually took the dexterity of her right hand, she trained her left hand instead, evolving a palette-knife style rich in layered tones and tactile depth. Since 2020 her compact canvases—featuring lyrical florals, shifting skies, and abstract mood studies—have appeared in Latvian exhibitions and entered private collections. Even recognizable subjects dissolve into fields of grey, white, and earth-toned accents, turning everyday scenes into quiet meditations on fragility, persistence, and the subtle play of light.
