About The Artwork

This started out as an ordinary still life, but turned strange when I added the knife, and unknown light source. I hope that the viewer understands that it reveals a presence, or that something may happen. Painted with a palette knife, on canvas board, it has a visible texture. Framed and wired.

Artist Statement: I am inspired to paint places and things I see around me. I am struck by light on objects and the space. Then my painting becomes all about color and how the colors create a flat abstract design, and at the same time, distance and form and light. Based on the things I see, I look for the geometric design within the rectangle or square of the canvas, and work on a painting until it becomes a satisfying combination of aesthetic elements. Beyond the formal elements of painting I am exploring the idea of our relationship to our environment, collections of objects, and sense of place as an important aspect of our lives. I have exhibited my paintings in galleries, group shows and street fairs in Connecticut, Mass., New York, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan and most recently, in Denton and Lewisville, TX. Collectors of my work reside in CA, MD, NY, WA, MD, MA, IL, RI, WI, MI and the UK. Public collections include Wausau Hospital in Wausau, WI, and Southern CT State U., in Connecticut. My work is often on view at the MCL Grand Theater Gallery in Lewisville, TX.
