Storm Coming On (after Turner) is a large-scale, oil on canvas painting, by American, contemporary abstract painter, Michael Rich. This painting features a turbulent assembly of color and mark, rolling across an open ground. Inspiration came from Turner's, Slavers Throwing Overboard the Dead and Dying, (Typhoon Coming On) a painting that Michael has visited at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston for years. Turner's complex mastery of a harrowing and haunting narrative set within a seascape of tumultuous beauty resonates for the artist today.
