About The Artwork
I recently became interested in what could be done using straight lines only, focusing on factors in design and creating drama with the use of monochrome and strong whites. I expect these rules to lead in new directions overtime. Some of these which are marked were inspired by photos in the Isaiah Rice Photograph Collection. The rest are inspired by random photographs. The medium is watercolor. I used Fabriano Artistico cold pressed 140 lb. 100% cotton paper, and the dimensions of the original painting are 18 inches x 24 inches.

Always an artist in various media, I began painting late in life and have little regard for rules in the creative process. Art represents freedom. I am for the most part untrained and strive to preserve my own artistic vision. Texture is my passion, but I enjoy experimenting with lines, repetition, and layering. My art spans a wide variety of subjects and techniques. That's what keeps me fresh. Occasionally, I become very involved in color, but I am also at home playing with only shadow and light.
