Sumo Frog Print

Sumo Frog is based on my stuffed animal frogs that have helped me through trauma and life changes. Since a little kid, I have been inspired by Japan in all its art forms from architecture to video games. Sumo frog embraces the traditional art of sumo wrestling and adds the abstraction of cartoons/ manga that I been heavily inspired by. I also take influence from cubism movements in my linework and love to focus on outlines. This painting is special to me due to the nature of my relationship with frogs. Frogs also in Japan are seen as good luck, so I always carry a frog when I travel. Frogs also represent rebirth and renewal, a great start for somebody who needs to heal from trauma and dramatic life changes. These stuffed animals' frogs were a weakness, but I changed them into strengths by painting them. This painting gives me the power to push on as a sumo wrestler would do against an opponent. Sumo Frog combines the best of my techniques to convey my emotions and strengths in a piece.
