I have always made art ever since I can remember, painting and drawing places, people, ideas, stories. Painting is a way of understanding our world and ourselves. A way of coming to terms with the endless change that is always going on in the natural world, in ourselves, and in our cultures. Yet painting is also a way of noticing what endures, which patterns keep re-emerging, which stories stick around, which places matter to us. I have been very fortunate to travel widely, and to live and work in Madagascar, Jordan, and now France, all different, and yet sometimes surprisingly similar cultures to my native Great Britain. Those places and the ancient places and stories they contain have been my subjects for many years. Ultimately, I paint as a form of meditation, as a process of contemplation of the subject, myself, the materials, and whatever endures in all of those.
