THE ORIGINAL PAINTING IS NOW SOLD and held in a private collection in the UK. "Painting outside ('en plein air') over the summer in the Scottish countryside, just north of Glasgow in the Campsie Fells, I carried out numerous small scale paintings of the scenery. This painting, measuring considerably larger than the 'alla prima' studies. I painted this on my studio easel in Glasgow over the course of two weeks. Painting with large brushes using acrylic paints, I was able to capture at pace the rolling hills of the Campsies at Dumgoyne near the Glengoyne Whisky distillery. The composition captures the last rays of sun on a summers evening in Scotland as the sun casts warmth onto the land. The trees below turn a purple hue as the cool of the evening begins to set in. I love to paint sunsets and thoroughly enjoyed the creative process. This original painting looks fabulous in any interior space. The abstract nature of the impressionistic sky and the detail in the land beneath contrast beautifully. The painting works well under various lighting conditions, so as to be appreciated at any time of day." Mark Mulholland's artwork is well sought after and his reputation for painting in multiple genres: landscape, still life, figurative and portrait is growing fast in the UK make the work of the artist most collectable.
