About The Artwork

Pine trees are special, aren't they? Majestic with an elegant form, their perfume fills the evening air... If you are out rambling at sunset, then you'll experience strong contrasts in light and dark. You'll notice that shape and form emerge with a better definition. That’s when trees transform from green to black, and their striking silhouette appears against the glowing clouds. They become more than just trees, but symbols of beauty and mystery. I recently had the opportunity to witness such a sunset in a pine forest near home. When I reached a clearing, sky and pines were clearly visible. The sun was already low, casting a deep orange hue across the sky. A large cumulus cloud was filled with colours ranging from orange to pink and red. The trio of pine trees, already dark against the sky, looked like giant sculptures or paintings, each one unique. The long slender branches seemed to reach out to touch the sky in an embrace. The light imperceptibly faded and as it faded, green plants that carpeted the ground began to glow in the dark. This painting emerged from the memory of the feeling I felt that evening. Please note: This acrylic on canvas is ready to hang. Framing is not required. This painting is varnished to add a protective coat against dust. Only the highest quality archival fine art grade Acrylic paint is used on the surface gessoed and prepared by myself. Packing: All work is packed professionally using protective compressed foam boards 2 cm deep so that your painting arrives safely. Thank you for taking the time to look at my work.

Wandering through the landscape we're touched by its mood and light, we live in it, and it lives in us. This magical union is where my paintings are born. How can I make tangible on a paint surface a world that is full of magic and poetry? My finished pieces do not mirror a subject matter but are a representation of emotions felt in a specific time or place. Often the fleeting effect of a particular light and colour in nature are held somewhere in my visual memory. At some point, this takes centre stage on the painting I am working on. It may appear during the process of creation without an obvious connection to the subject matter at hand and yet, it adds another dimension, a particular atmosphere. These processes are ways and means by which I express my connection to nature in all its richness and variety. I am an Irish artist living and working in Provence France My work is rooted in the Romantic landscape tradition. I hold a Bachelor Degree in Fine Art (BFA). My work is in collections in France, the USA, Great Britain and Ireland.
