ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This is one of seven painting done in 1999 on Chinese cotton paper. Of the seven, six were inspired by Sentinel Rock in Yosemite. This amazing obelisk shaped rock in the center of Yosemite Valley has been the inspiration for many art works that I have created. The sun was setting on the rock and the millennium when I stood in the plein air and finished and dated this piece.

I work in Yosemite National Park as a tour guide. I have worked in Yosemite for over 30 years. My artwork is inextricably tied to my Yosemite Geography and my ecological message. I am a plein air painter, print maker, and photographer. I also write and illustrate my own books. I am the author of "A Brief Instruction in Christian Religion," (A translation of Faustus Socinus), "The Chronicles of the Field Mouse Timothy," (Corn,Tomato,Wheat, Cotton, Sweet Potatoes, Rice Paddy, Pond Mouse and Yosemite), "Nature Vision" (Poems), and I have illustrated the short stories of my late daughter Sandra Fontana "Cereal at Midnight." I love nature and the wilderness. I am a proponent of the global national parks movement.
