About The Artwork

This is my first crossover between my "GOLD" and "BOLD" paintings. I think it worked out marvelously! "Supermaose" represents power. Great powerful leaders use their powers for all good. They also have the ability to laugh at themselves. Those who abuse their power do not. That´s why they are laughed at, not with. I paint portraits of people who have made an impact - on me on our society. On this painting I used I use oil paints and 23K gold leaf. I started to paint portraits with oil paints when I challenged myself to paint the two things that are most difficult for me: 1) faces and 2) oil paints. I painted "Icons of Icons" by adding gold leaf to the background, reminiscing religious icons. By swapping the oil for the background and the gold for the actual portrait my paintings evolved into my "Gold Portraits". The thing is, I always enjoyed the paintings in their early phases, when the paintings seemed extremely light and relaxed. I am able to achieve that sketchy result now in my "Bold Portraits” - without having the painting appear unfinished. I dropped out everything extra and left just a dash of gold or colors. I paint the painting meticulously through 3-4 times with a very small brush in order to finish it with the undulating sketchy lines. I hope you like them! Synopsis: I paint iconic people and topics that have had an impact on me or our society. I paint oil on canvas, but highlight them often with gold leaf or ultrablack matt acrylic paint. The painting is signed on the back and has my “e” symbol on the front. The painting continues around the sides, so it is ready to hang unframed.

"We all have a voice - my art is mine" I paint to illuminate injustice and expose the abuse of power. My goal is to encourage and inspire people to take action for positive change. After an award winning international career in design I switched my creative passion entirely into art - my deepest lifelong passion. Said of Antti Eklund: "Francis Bacon coming on Andy Warhol with Keith Haring watching, a touch of Gerhard Richter and a splash of Martial Raysse, a squeeze of Yan Pei-Ming, a drop of Marlene Dumas. But, no - genuine Antti Eklund."
