ABOUT THE ARTWORK

In my surrealist portrait painting, I delve into the captivating essence of Gala, the extraordinary woman who served as Salvador Dali's wife, muse, and a remarkable artist in her own right. I choose to intertwine her visage with that of a powerful tiger, drawing inspiration from Dali's "Dream caused by the flight of a Bee around a pomegranate a second before awakening" and the imagery of flying tigers that captivated his imagination. The fusion of Gala's delicate features with the fierce elegance of a tiger symbolizes the complexity and strength inherent in her personality. This juxtaposition speaks to the transformative power of love and the interplay between vulnerability and resilience. Gala's spirit, like that of the tiger, embodies determination, passion, and a hint of untamed wilderness. I paint Gala and the tiger with vibrant hues of orange and blue, which evoke a sense of mystery and enchantment. The choice of colors reflects the surrealistic nature of the piece and invites viewers to explore the depths of their own imagination. Through this artwork, I aim to inspire viewers to embrace their own duality, to recognize the strength within their vulnerability, and to celebrate the transformative power of love and imagination. May this portrait of Gala, as she morphs with the spirit of the tiger, serve as a visual testament to the limitless possibilities that await those who dare to dream and defy convention.I was inspired by hybrids and morphing animals and women in a surrealist style. I had been studying tigers and playing with lycanthropy. I am always inspired by Salvador Dali's work. The tiger reference is a direct nod to Dali, a thank you of sorts.

Kasey is a multifaceted force of creativity and chaos, hailing from the quirky depths of Dallas, TX. With a childhood molded by winning soccer championships and outshining octogenarians in art contests, she knew early on that life was meant to be a colorful adventure. Leaving Dallas behind at the first chance, Kasey embarked on an academic journey fueled by her love for the beautiful game and the artistic realms. From earning a full soccer scholarship at the University of North Carolina to pursuing an MFA in Visual Arts at PRATT Institute in NYC, she fearlessly chased her passions. Art became Kasey's sanctuary, beckoning her into a world where creativity danced with memory and pain transformed into inspiration. Her art knows no bounds, spanning across various mediums such as paintings, photography, neon, sculptures, drawings, jewelry, ceramics—you name it, she's got it covered. This artistic dynamo doesn't stop at creating masterpieces; she also exhibits her works, teaches art and photography, and imparts her knowledge through workshops and seminars. Life took a surprising turn when Kasey and her girlfriends found themselves struck by lightning on a trip to France—metaphorically, of course! Love struck her heart, and she promptly married a Frenchman from Normandie. Together they built a life in Dallas, raising two wonderful boys until tragedy struck, leaving her a widow and single mother. Undeterred, Kasey continued to explore the world with her boys, blending adventure with stability. As a dedicated public high school educator, Kasey has spent the past 17 years teaching AP studio Art and photography, coaching soccer teams, and nurturing young minds. But her artistic endeavors didn't end in the classroom. Alongside her husband, she developed two wildly successful Facebook games, showcasing their combined prowess in coding, algorithms, and all things creative. It's safe to say that Kasey wears many hats, effortlessly transitioning from a professor to an artist, game developer, and everything in between. In a whirlwind of passion, laughter, and pop culture references, Kasey's life is a vibrant tapestry woven with resilience and an unwavering love for the extraordinary. And if all of that still doesn't satiate her appetite for adventure, who knows what she'll conquer next? The world better watch out!
