About The Artwork

Work created in  2023. Its title comes, not from the photographic reference used or the subject matter, but from the process that the portrait has undergone from its first layer, in graphite passing through successive phases in acrylic, pastel and oil; scraping, removing and adding till its current state. The final image is reminiscent of a person emerging with integrity from some shadows. It is delicately framed with glass and cream passepartout with beige wood. This work has been part of my last solo show Visions of the Portrait.

I started painting in 2014 and my technique is evolving since then. I am focused mainly in representing the human figure. People is the subject matter that inspires me, that makes me feel that I am communicating something that talks about me. Regarding my artistic method, for certain works I take a planned route towards an expected result mainly in oil painting. However, recently I tend to let the work itself guide me through a more intuitive layered technique in mixed media, as the final painting is more personal and more interesting to the viewer. I held my first solo show last year and, in parallel to some commissions, I am currently working on paintings in which light plays a prominent role in the narrative of the works, sometimes represented in a more natural way and in others through more imaginative elements. My solo show "Visions of the portrait" has gathered in July 2023 the works published in the collection of the same name in this page.
