Swansea Market Fishmongers 2018 Print

This painting was 'long listed' for the Swansea Open Competition 2018 and hung in the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery, Swansea, for two months in 2018-2019. Swansea Market dates back to the 1700s and today is a characterful and colourful place. The painting was created from references and to complete the composition the artist put himself in the painting as the character on the right. His newspaper is a juxtaposing element contrasting the cellphone which is obviously interesting the other two figures. The fish display is as it was on the day, perfectly presented with care, and the clock suggests this work was carried out early and the characters are catching their breath before the morning rush of shoppers.
