ABOUT THE ARTWORK

It shows the portrait of Sylvia Plath in charcoal and acrylic, amidst the background done in acrylic in a colour that I associate(d) with her. Fragments from her poetry are shown both as garlanding/strangling her (written in both normal and mirror writing), as the ornament she wears, choking her. One line reads- "I have survived the atrocity of sunsets", instead of "I have suffered the atrocity of sunsets". This was a unconscious slip that I made and then let it be, as kind of like my unconscious urge to survive what she could not. This, for me, made it take a whole new meaning.
