ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The Athlete is a painting I enjoy; as an anatomical figure. He is painted from my imagination as a baseball player stance. As a youth sports were not common for girls ..not until later in the sixties..and experiencing the Olympics on TV. I gravitate now to sports figures...as models that can display the human figure in a solid and graphic is a universal way to portray the figure. thank you...Mary B. Vannucci

I have retired as Art teacher from inner-city Bridgeport, CT. and Baltimore City, MD. Now a professional mid. career artist. I earned a BFA in painting from Boston University and a BA at Southern Conn. State College, NH, CT. Later I attended Maryland Institute College of Art in painting. Also I attended Yale University special Summer Programs. I worked as a City Spirit Artist; of the New Haven Arts Council. I had a retrospective exhibit at Bridgeport Public Library, Bridgeport., CT., and shown art at Maryland Institute College . I lived at Artist Housing Inc,. Baltimore, MD. Where I exhibited at our Gallery 1448, I Returned to New Haven < CT. and exhibited at Creative Arts Workshop, NH, CT.; Arts and Literature Laboratory, NH, Open Studios Show, 1 and 11. and Erector Sq. After I had been hospitalized when young...and told I would never work another day in my life.. I went and taught school for many years..and when cancer seemed like the end I beat it twice...I have been painting what seems like forever...and it has been difficult at times...but when there is nothing to give you a good fight or challenge...... you must leave and reverse your path as the same as in painting...I paint for the love of it...and to solve problems.....painting has carried me through ..and has enriched me.
