The idea for this picture was born in 1993, when Joaquin spent some time in Valencia, Spain, with his good friend Danny H.. Joaquin had been persuaded by Danny to take a short trip to Valencia. He was hesitant at first, as he had almost used up the money he had available for the month. However, his friend Danny assured him that they could stay there cheaply and that the restaurants were also reasonably priced, so Joaquin agreed and shortly afterwards they were on a plane to Valencia. Once there, they found a rather run-down apartment. As the lack of luxury was getting on their nerves, they decided to spend as much time as possible outside and explore the nightlife. As Danny had visited Valencia several times before, he knew the area very well. Danny chose the legendary nightclub "Calcatta" as the first destination for their nocturnal activities. Unfortunately, the entrance fee was so high that there was no money left for drinks. "Never mind," thought the two of them and entered the club. The atmosphere was overwhelming. Hardly anyone spoke English, but Danny could speak a little Spanish and that was enough to communicate. At some point, Danny went onto the dance floor. Then the unbelievable happened. Danny did such a bizarre dance that the whole club was watching him. Danny continued to dance and the crowd began to roar with excitement. The whole thing went on for at least 10 minutes. Until the atmosphere reached a maximum. When Danny came back from the dance floor, he was drenched in sweat. The barman bought Danny and Joaquin a drink straight away and told them that all other drinks for the evening would be on the house. Danny was "The Lord of the Dance" for him! That saved the evening. Although this was only the beginning of an exciting journey, it was also the decisive inspiration for Joaquin's painting: " The Lord of The Dance "

Joaquin De Mondo's art reveals a tension resulting from rational doubt, which for him follows from the inadequacies of modernism and the recognizable inapplicability of conservative views. His doubt is the origin of his striving for clear artistic statements - sometimes overly concrete, sometimes mysteriously abstract - executed with strong colours and evident dynamism in form and lines, but sometimes in a different way: in disciplined geometric compositions. Joaquin De Mondo's active and creative power and his seriousness in dealing with current issues of nature and culture lead to a variety of interesting and meaningful representations and compositions in his oeuvre, which reflect his feelings on a surprising level. His works are captivating analyses of existence and will, his contemplations, ideas and dreams. Joaquin De Mondo works conscientiously and at a remarkable standard. Interesting about his more recent works is the powerful stillness, the use of strong colours, an unusual relief-like structural technique, striking colour transitions, with an astonishing harmonic dynamic, which leads directly to the motto of his ambitions: A primal direct force that communicates itself to the viewer at first glance and holds him captive.
