ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The power of a crying. I just wanted to represent the power of that moment, a mix of beauty of feelings being released, of the honesty of showing your sorrow with no shame and the courage of revealing the naked truth of the pain. I chose a recycled wooden pallet, covered by silly news from local newspapers, using an acrylic base and oil painting to make the pain pop up in the form of a crying eye. Scene so common in my days among Syrian people.

I'm a Spanish film director based in London. My first childhood memories were myself drawing with a pencil, I used to draw everything happened to me during the day, including dreams or nightmares, was my way of meditation about life. I studied fine arts in Madrid, learning and loving every technic, water colour, pastel painting, Chinese ink, acrylic, oil... But I found in directing ads a way of making a living and take care of my 3 children's family. I did several exhibitions, selling almost every painting before moving to London 7 years ago. I was too busy with my work as to keep painting, just weekly drawing sessions with my children, they love it. But in 2017 I directed a special shortfilm to me, the one that changed my mind, I shot an amazing story about Syria war and refugees. After that tough experience, being so close to this suffering people and in a war area, being for so long in the "panic zone", I needed to come back to painting, as I used to do when child, to get rid of the nightmares that did not let me sleep once I was back at home, in London. It worked out. Now, as a grateful act for that therapy, I thought of selling all that works, meaning so much for me, trying to rise some money to send back to help Syrian people, it won't be much, but I know well everything helps when people are so in need. And this time I now that I won't stop painting anymore :)
