Art Description

Painting: Oil on Paper.

We had a tiny apartment on Telegraph Hill in San Francisco from 2003 to 2013 and we loved the place. It was tiny but sweet and we had our own relatively large private garden that we really enjoyed and made a lot of use of. Though we didn't have much of a view of the city, just outside our door was a wonderful view in one direction of the piers and embarcadero. This painting represents the view we had in the other direction toward the heart of North Beach and down and then up Vallejo Street to Russian Hill. At sunset the light was amazing and would bathe the high rise apartment buildings on the hill with a rosy color that I felt I had to paint. And this piece really lent itself to my technique using oil stick and paint stick and lots of scratching back into the canvas to create line and detail using the point of an exacto knife or sharp colored pencil.
The original painting was sold a few years ago to a native San Franciscan so it is in good hands but the prints I made turned out beautifully and are a perfect reproduction of (or maybe better than) the original oil
