ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The Black Sea, 10 x 7 inch, acrylic on heavy bodied Yupo paper. Painters love working with Yupo paper because of its unique properties. Similar in weight and feel to fine art photographic papers, the non-absorbent surface allows for interesting color experimentation and unexpected blending effects. The paper's durability also enables exploration with various techniques, such as lifting and scraping, resulting in dynamic and expressive artworks. Mechelle's 2020 piece, The Black Sea, is being offered unframed and recommends professional framing and handling. If you would like the artist to mount and frame this gorgeous piece please speak to your Saatchi art advisor for mediation. Mechelle's inspiration for the Black Sea centers around its dense history and ecology. She states, "How to communicate so much emotion, diversity, mystery and uniqueness in a way that leaves the viewer "feeling" the possibilities of a place vs. merely trying to "show them"? I've never been. Would love to go. I think the average U.S. citizen knows little about it, sadly. From childhood, The Black Sea reminded me of some far off magical place in a fairy tale. I've done a lot of reading over my life about this sea, and its trials and tribulations. I'm drawn to it as a container of mystery." The Black Sea, bordered by six countries, is unique in its formation and characteristics. It has a high salinity level due to limited water exchange, making it less dense, and its anoxic layers have historical significance, preserving ancient shipwrecks. The sea also hosts diverse ecosystems, including unique species like the spotted ray and the Black Sea bottlenose dolphin. The sea plays a vital role in regional trade and transportation and has historical and cultural significance, with ancient civilizations like the Greeks and Romans leaving their mark along its shores. Signed on reverse. Certificate of Authenticity included.

Mechelle (aka, Miki ⚓️) is a traditional and digital artist living alongside the Gulf of Mexico. She loves hiking, running, reading (all the genres), van camping/boondocking, snorkeling, and freediving. Mechelle is currently working on her PADI Freediving Certification and hopes to pursue an ever deepening life long practice within this meditative sport community. She loves the sea... sky, desert, forest, field, and mountains. Her main sources of inspiration for the past decade or so have been the horizon (mostly coastal these days), mythology, and the illusions of stillness in nature. Her work has been described as Meditative, Simply Elegant, Arresting, Curious, Beautifully Zen, and Contemplative. As a thalassophile... and lover of all things intracoastal and pelagic, Mechelle typically heads out to the Gulf to catch the muted cotton candy colors of the western horizon as the sun rises behind her in the east. She loves to paddleboard, film, or walk the shoreline with her rescue dogs Rogue & Rosie before starting her day in studio or on the water. Mechelle is a Taurus, and muses that it may play a role in her particular love for the shoreline, that magical place where the sea and land kiss, and together create subtle and dramatic exchanges 24/7. Please have a look around, and if you are interested in purchasing or commissioning a piece of art. Contact the Saatchi curatorial team and they will excellently mediate this journey. Each piece is expertly packaged and shipped to Saatchi's pristine specifications. Artist's Certificate of Authenticity included. ° Thank you for your interest in and support of independent artists.
